The Nigerian All-Share Index closed Friday, 22 May 2026, in positive territory, rising 0.22% to 249,712.4 points as it edged closer to a return above the 250,000 psychological level.

This represented a 537-point gain from the previous session’s 249,175.4, even as trading activity weakened to 711.8 million shares from 1.06 billion shares.

Market capitalisation still advanced alongside prices, climbing to N160.07 trillion after 62,386 deals, up from the previous N159.7 trillion recorded.

Fidelity Bank led market activity with 198 million shares traded, valued at N4.5 billion, topping both the volume and value charts for the session.

What the data is saying 

Trading sentiment remained bullish on 22 May 2026 as the year-to-date return strengthened to 60.47%, up from 60.13% in the previous session.

  • Aluminium Extrusion Industries and DAAR Communications topped the gainers’ chart, each advancing by 10% to lead the day’s strongest performers.
  • At the same time, profit-taking pressure lingered, with Trans Nationwide Express and Livestock Feeds declining by 9.92% and 9.64% respectively.

Fidelity Bank led trading activity by volume with 198 million shares, followed by Access Holdings at 69.6 million and Mutual Benefits at 42.7 million shares.

  • JaPaul Gold also recorded notable activity with 33.8 million shares, while Zenith Bank followed closely with 24.3 million shares exchanged during the session.

In value terms, Fidelity Bank led with N4.5 billion, followed by Aradel at N3.5 billion and Zenith Bank at N3.2 billion, while Access Holdings and MTN Nigeria posted N1.74 billion and N1.17 billion respectively.

  • On the downside, Dangote Sugar declined by 1.14%.

FUGAZ performance 

  • FUGAZ stocks closed mixed, with UBA up 0.45% and First HoldCo gaining 0.14%, while Access Holdings declined by 1.38%
  • Meanwhile, Zenith Bank and GTCO closed flat.

What you should know 

Sectorally, performance was broadly positive, with the NGX Industrial Goods index gaining 0.53%, while NGX Consumer Goods advanced 0.28%.

  • The NGX Banking index rose 0.25%, alongside a 0.18% uptick in the NGX Oil and Gas index during the session.
  • On the flip side, NGX Insurance shed 0.18%.
